Here are a few ways you will not get a raise.
One. Asking nicely. No matter how much your employee likes and values you, as a person, they always have something else in mind: the bottom line. Your case, for a raise needs to be tailored to that.
Two. Focusing on the past. Businesses are forward-looking enterprises. They’re much less concerned with what you’ve done last year than what you will do in the future. After all, they’re paying a salary now. So while great performance in the past, might help your in a one off bonus, earning a sustainable raise, will require you to look ahead.
Hoping someone will notice. You might put your head down, do a great job, and wish that your bosses will notice. Many people do this! But you’re giving up a real opportunities here. Not only are you leaving some thing as important as your salary in someone else’s hands, but you’re also missing the chance to define the kind of career. Ultimately, a dream without a plan is just a wish.
